Des Strong

Des Strong retired from Grampian Fire and Rescue Service in January 2008, after 32 years service, the last 15 years as a dedicated fire safety officer based in Elgin, where he attained the rank of watch manager.

During this time he has attended numerous professional fire safety courses and seminars, they have enabled him to achieve the necessary written qualifications and modules, that allow him to call himself a qualified fire safety inspecting officer, this coupled with an intense inspection programme has resulted in him carrying out and reporting on hundreds of fire safety inspections and being called as an expert witness in a court of law.

The culmination of this extensive knowledge, resulted in Des being asked by senior management to proof read and report on the draft documents, “Practical Fire Safety Guides for” [types of premises] these documents can be downloaded free of charge at www.infoscotland.com/firelaw.

Knowing these guides along with, Part 3 Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 as amended and the Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006, coupled with practical experience are essential for any person to be competent in carrying out fire risk assessments.

Now self employed Des offers his expertise to businesses who have yet to carry out their fire risk assessments or review their existing ones, whether this is due to the lack of the relevant knowledge, experience or just simply the time to undertake them.

Other companies will take your money and run, Des offers a regular inspection programmed review, (quarterly, 6 monthly) with reports that let you know how the remedial works are progressing.
